Longines has reimagined one of its most recognisable women’s watches and the results are quietly spectacular. The newly redesigned PrimaLuna marks a fresh chapter in the maison’s century-long dialogue with feminine horology, blending technical refinement with poetic design cues inspired by the night sky.
The most significant update lies beneath the dial. For the first time, the PrimaLuna’s automatic moonphase is joined by a date display, powered by Longines’ exclusive L899.5 calibre, a movement built around a silicon balance spring for improved magnetic resistance and a robust 72-hour power reserve. The result is a watch that is not only more precise but also more practical, bringing substance to its signature style.
The 34 mm case, now more sculptural, features softly domed contours that catch light from every angle, anchoring the collection’s visual transformation. The crown, shaped like a polished moon and engraved with tiny crescents, nods to the celestial complication within. Offered in stainless steel, bi-material gold, and gem-set variants, each configuration is designed with refined proportions that preserve the line’s discreet, rounded character.

The PrimaLuna reaches its visual zenith in the blue mother-of-pearl model, a showpiece of craftsmanship with a bezel set with 48 graduated sapphires totalling just over one carat. The stones shift in hue from pale azure to deep indigo, creating the effect of a fading twilight sky. Fourteen diamond hour markers and rhodium-plated hands complete the composition, restrained, luminous, and unmistakably Longines.
Even comfort receives a thoughtful upgrade. The new bracelet design features shorter, half-moon links that echo the watch’s lunar theme while improving ergonomics on the wrist. Leather straps in blue, red, or burgundy offer further versatility, complementing both the classic silver-dial editions and the more opulent gem-set references.
The launch is fronted by Longines Ambassador of Elegance Jennifer Lawrence, whose campaign situates the actress alone in an empty opera house, a visual metaphor for introspection and grace. “The new PrimaLuna feels timeless,” she notes. “It has the kind of classic elegance that can easily go from day to night.” The cinematic tone of the campaign underscores the brand’s long-held belief that elegance is not an occasion but an attitude, one that moves seamlessly between worlds, just as the PrimaLuna transitions from boardroom to evening affair.
With its refined silhouette, updated mechanics, and sapphire-set bezel, the PrimaLuna represents a considered evolution of this signature Longines collection, now entering a more luminous phase.
