Sindiso Khumalo Celebrates First Flagship Store in Africa With A Joyful New Collection: ‘In Full Bloom’

Cape Town’s creative heartbeat is now home to her first retail space.
Every detail, from blush velvet curtains to surplus tiles, reflects Khumalo’s ethos of conscious design.

After more than a decade of making her mark on the global stage, from Milan Fashion Week to acclaimed collaborations with & Other Stories, IKEA and Vans,  Sindiso Khumalo has chosen African soil for her very first flagship store. The celebrated LVMH Prize finalist has officially opened the doors to a new Cape Town space, anchoring her brand’s next chapter in the city where her story began.

For Khumalo, this milestone is a chance to root her global journey in a space that celebrates African luxury, conscious design, and women’s narratives. “Opening the store in Cape Town just made sense. It’s where my family is, where my home is,” she reflects.

Located in the vibrant Longkloof precinct, the flagship embodies the brand’s aesthetic and ethos. Designed in collaboration with South African talent including ARRANGE Studio, Dokter and Misses, and Wunders, while also featuring artwork by Marsi van de Heuvel, the space is both personal and purposeful. Blush velvet curtains, fire-engine red railings, and pink-painted piping inject playfulness into the industrial setting, while surplus tiles and a repurposed sofa by Heath Nash underscore Khumalo’s commitment to sustainability and circularity.

“Everything you see in the store, the colours, the textures, the energy, is part of the world we’ve built with the brand,” she explains. “We’ve always worked with waste in a way that reimagines it as something beautiful, and I wanted that to be part of the store too.”

Taking pride of place on the shop floor currently is ‘In Full Bloom’, Khumalo’s newest collection. A joyful homage to sisterhood and shared heritage, it draws inspiration from the women in her life, past and present. The line merges Cape Town embroidery techniques with hand-block printing from Jaipur, creating a rich dialogue between South African and Indian craft traditions.

True to her signature style, the collection leans into colour and storytelling. Shades of turmeric, rose, and sage, inspired by Khumalo’s travels to India and Morocco, recall the spices, pottery, and textiles of Marrakech’s souks, transformed here into bold, painterly silhouettes. Alongside her signature 60s-inspired cuts, the collection introduces more accessible pieces such as T-shirts and collar accessories, expanding her design universe while maintaining her slow, intentional approach. “I’ve always thought of clothing as a kind of good luck charm,” Khumalo notes. “I want our garments to bring joy and feel like little talismans that move with you through your life.”

By choosing Cape Town as the home for her first flagship, Khumalo underscores a powerful truth: that Africa is not just a backdrop to global luxury, it’s creating its own nerve centers of commerce and community. As she puts it, “We really wanted to create something that felt warm and welcoming, where people could come in, discover the brand, and feel like they’re stepping into a story. I hope they feel at home.”
