Dave Dahl may have sold his company, Dave’s Killer Bread, aka America’s largest organic bread company, for a whopping $275 million in 2015, but we’re more impressed with his family’s ties to some pretty impressive real estate. You may have heard of the entrepreneur’s Portland condo, picked up for over $3 million in 2017, but his nephew and the company’s former CEO, Shobi Dahl, holds the keys to an even grander Mediterranean-style mansion in Oregon that sits along the Willamette River.
Juliet balconies and custom finishes are the name of the game at the Lake Oswego estate that was built in 1996. Dahl picked up the nearly three-acre property in 2016, by which time it had reportedly become run-down and repossessed. The nonbinary entrepreneur and angel investor promptly carried out a yearlong renovation of the home, factoring in a Versailles-like dining room and party wing for entertaining guests. It “was the only way I allowed myself to be creative,” they told The Oregonian in 2023, after describing their past self as “closed-off.” Dahl is now selling the abode as it no longer aligns with “who I am or how I want to live anymore.”

Complete with nine bedrooms and 13 bathrooms, the opulent mansion sprawls out over nearly 20,000 square feet of indulgent living space. With a host of extravagant amenities that range from a forest-themed playroom to a theater that doubles as a ballroom, the waterfront home is a Beaver State trophy. Steve Nassar and Robert Fine of Premiere Property Group have the home listed with a $9.95 million asking price.

A gated driveway opens to a widespread view of the front yard, which is anchored by a huge pond traversed by a bridge. Towering trees along the perimeter act as a privacy buffer. Dahl reportedly spent $235,000 on renovations to make the mansion’s interiors colorful and “fun.” The great room with dark cerulean-hued walls and a marble-clad fireplace with wood paneling is one mark of such updates.
The formal dining room has a classical feel, accented by muraled walls, a bronzed fireplace, and a chandelier with a flower petal ceiling medallion, while custom cabinetry and coffered ceilings pop against modern appliances in the kitchen, opposite a string of French doors that open out to the backyard patio with a table that seats 20 guests. The huge, double-height theater room, which can serve as a ballroom for grand events, sports a massive carved stone fireplace and an elevated performance stage below an inset ceiling mural. The library, family room, exercise room, billiards room, and treehouse playroom with a rope bridge are other standouts on the main floor.

All but one of the bedrooms are on the second floor. The primary suite, with a walk-in closet and custom-tiled bath, feels like a breath of fresh air with a sitting area and dual sets of doors that open out to balcony and terrace spaces overlooking the river.

A massive pool and spa anchor the backyard, which also includes a pool house. Parking for 12 rides and a private dock give both auto and marine enthusiasts a little more to swoon over.
