Seth Shezi’s Sun-Lit Menu Marks the Final Days of Veuve Clicquot’s Emotions of the Sun in Cape Town

A final invitation to experience how photography, champagne, and cuisine converge in a warm, immersive celebration of light.

As Emotions of the Sun enters its closing weekend in Cape Town, the experience continues to unfold far beyond the gallery walls. At Youngblood Gallery on Bree Street, Veuve Clicquot’s radiant exhibition reaches its final crescendo, accompanied by a culinary counterpart designed to be savoured while it lasts.

Created in collaboration with Magnum Photos, the exhibition presents 40 photographs by eight Magnum photographers, each interpreting the Sun not as a celestial object but as an emotion. Warmth. Optimism. Intensity. Joy. It is this emotional lens that Cape Town creative Seth Shezi has translated into flavour through Sun on Your Plate Café, a menu conceived as a sensory extension of the exhibition itself.

Shezi’s approach mirrors the exhibition’s solaire philosophy. Seasonal ingredients take centre stage, illuminated by golden hues and playful textures that evoke light on the plate. The dishes are intuitive yet expressive, designed to feel comforting without ever becoming predictable. Truffle skinny fries finished with saffron aioli, goat’s cheese paired with yellow beetroot crisps and wild honey, and salmon sashimi served atop a turmeric blini each read like culinary interpretations of sunlight, bright, generous, and quietly indulgent.

Threaded throughout the experience is Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label, whose citrus notes, white fruit character, and subtle brioche undertones bring balance and lift to the menu. The pairing feels effortless, reinforcing the Maison’s long standing relationship with convivial dining and its global reputation for champagne moments that unfold around the table.

In its final days, Emotions of the Sun becomes less about observation and more about immersion. Art, food, and champagne converge to create an experience that moves easily between the visual and the visceral. The café transforms a gallery visit into a lingering moment, inviting guests to slow down, taste, and take in the warmth while it remains.

Tickets are priced at R200 and include access to the exhibition, Sun on Your Plate Café, the gifting boutique, and a glass of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label. The exhibition is open daily from 10am to 6pm at Youngblood Gallery.

For those yet to experience it, the closing weekend offers a final opportunity to encounter Veuve Clicquot’s world through light, flavour, and feeling, before the Sun sets on its Cape Town chapter.
